original song from his hit revue "What's The Point?!") - Cynthia Crane
(singing a song from her acclaimed METROPOLITAN ROOM show) - 2008-MAC
AWARD winner (Jazz CD) John De Marco - 2008-MAC AWARD winner (director)
Eric Michael Gillett - 4-time MAC nominee and multi-award winner David
Gurland - Cabaret Musical Comedienne Teresa Fischer - Cabaret vocalist/humorist
Matt Leahy - Cabaret favorite Joyce Moody (Vampin' Lady) - Boston
area singer/songwriter/recording artist Krisanthi Pappas - 2008 MAC
AWARD NOMINEE (Female Jazz Vocalist) Alysha Umphress - she also co-hosts
THE AFTER PARTY. Also 2008-MAC AWARD winner (Male Vocalist) Miles
Phillips, as the JEFF MATSON AWARD winner, and 2008-MAC AWARD winner
(Piano Bar Instrumentalist) Tracy Stark, as the DOTTIE BURMAN AWARD
winner have been invited to perform. Two additional performers have
been asked to take part - we are awaiting confirmation (they have
to check their schedules).
Tickets are just $10 - but must be purchased along
with a 2008-2009 membership: $30 for a SILVER combo; $$85 for a
GOLD combo. A $250 CRYSTAL membership gets you 2 free tickets!
Just go to http://www.svhamstra.com/thankyou1tkt.shtml
or click on the link on the home (opening) page on the CABARET HOTLINE
ONLINE website to place your order. SEATING IS LIMITED TO 85 - over
30 tickets have already been sold. And please don't call THE BEECHMAN
- they are not taking reservations for this event.
The party celebrates the start of the new 2008-2009
membership year which officially begins July 6th - the date in 1990
when the first CABARET HOTLINE (print edition) was published! The
theme of the show is: TURNING 18 - OLD ENOUGH TO CHOOSE! (no politics,
please). The purpose of the show and the membership drive is to
raise the funds necessary to keep the website and the newsletter
from closing down during the June-July-August period when new banner
advertising drops to close to zero.
If you can't attend and want to send congratulations
(or if you have a show or CD to promote) you can support the event
by purchasing an ad in the program booklet. There is a link on the
opening (home) page of the website - fill in the size ad you wish
to purchase). Deadline for ads is June 24th.
I am still looking for one more sponsor to help with
covering the costs of the event (every penny of tickets sold will
go to support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - as in the past). If you wish
to be a sponsor at $100 just go to the website and you will find
on the opening (home) page a link to the sponsorship form. Sponsors
are mentioned (if they wish) on all publicity information sent and
also get a 1/4 page ad (worth $35) in the program booklet.
THE CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY is
sponsored in part by 2008-MAC AWARD winner Suzanne Carricco (http://www.suzannecarrico.com/
), Raissa Katona Bennett (http://www.raissa.info/
), MIRANDA MUSIC (http://www.mirandamusic.com/
), Sandi Durell (http://www.timelessdivas.com/
) and Joyce Moody (http://www.joycemoody.com/
). Two additional sponsors have chosen to remain anonymous.
As with all live entertainment events, performers
are subject to change without notice.
2008-2009 MEMBERSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE
2008-2009 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE memberships, good through July 5,
2009, are also now on sale (brand new members signing up before July

NOW FOR SOME NEWS ABOUT CABARET
In an effort to cut down on "repeated" events, except for announcements
of programs offered by cabaret membership organizations, and shows
where guests change regularly, cabaret news items will usually appear

on the website will be mentioned in every issue, and events offering
discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE are mentioned in every
MIDWEEK issue. As with all live entertainment events, performers are
subject to change without notice.

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET
HOTLINE ONLINE website, in the DATEBOOK/DIARY and in the twice-weekly
newsletter? Just e-mail a press release of at least four or five paragraphs,
giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other
cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available.
Please send complete information - and do not merely e-mail a copy
of your flier or a reference to a website. If you don't have a press
release, just click here: http://www.svhamstra.com/PressRelease1.shtml
and fill out the information as completely as possible - or use the
items asked for as a guide to the information I need. Just send in
your press release or listings request in simple txt format if possible,
and send any photos as attachments, not imbedded within the e-mail.
The more information the better.
Because of the large number of items received, we
can only use news of event just once, so we try not to get too far
ahead in the news. There are a few exceptions to the "just once"
rule: If the event is advertised on the website it will be repeated
in every issue of the newsletter; If the event offers a discount
to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE it will be included in each
MID-WEEK issue of the newsletter; Major benefits where ALL proceeds
are given to the charity named will be mentioned in every issue
as well as major cabaret events like cabaret festivals and galas;
We also include at least once each week those regular (monthly,
weekly, etc.) events with guests who change each performance, like
SETH'S BROADWAY CHATTERBOX, BOB EGAN'S MONDAY SHOWCASE and the like.
HERE & THERE
The news keeps rolling in from all over - but I can always use more
news. Take a look at the listings for the month ahead on the website
(click on the button marked DIARY/DATEBOOK at the top of every page)
to see what we mean. Is your show or event listed? If not, it means
either you didn't send me a press release or you sent me incomplete
information or news in an unusable format. Remember, send complete
information - and do not merely e-mail a copy of your flier or a reference
to a website link. See the item immediately above this section for
instructions and even a link to a form you can fill out and submit.
Monday night I went with my pal Daniel to the latest BROADWAY BY THE
YEAR show at THE TOWN HALL, and I have to tell you that somehow each
show seems better than the last - as impossible as that may sound.
Host Scott Siegel always seems to dig out the most incredible and
interesting items to introduce the songs (this show was THE BROADWAY
MUSICALS OF 1965) and always seems to pick the best performers to
match to the songs. Outstanding in the show were cabaret's own Julie
Reyburn and Brandon Cutrell. This particular show included more dancing
than previous shows I've seen - spectacular dancing, I might add.
A talented team of chorus boys & girls added spice, glamor and pizzaz
to the show, but the real joy was the terrific vocals performed by
the likes of Broadway favorites Brian d'Arcy James, Gregg Edelman,
Marc Kudisch, Julia Murney, the great dancing of Kendrick Jones, Shannon
Lewis, Melinda Sullivan, plus Lorin Latarro and David Eggers (who
also co-choreographed and stage the concert). It was an evening of
non-stop (except for intermission) excitement and entertainment. And
the show took less than 2 1/2 hours (including a 20-minute break)!
And special mention must be made of Ross Patterson and his "little
big band." Ross did all the arrangements - 26 songs from 10 different
shows! It was another star studded, spectacular evening.
We received word that cabaret reviewer and consultant (and good friend)
John Hoglund was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon suffering
from chest pains. Apparently John is having some procedures while
there, including coronary angioplasty with the possible insertion
of stents. The doctors recommend that he not have visitors or phone
calls at this time - John may be released from the hospital as early
as tonight or tomorrow morning. I will try to get more information
for the Monday issue. Meantime, please remember John in your thoughts
and prayers.
Tickets continue on sale for our 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY at THE LAURIE
BEECHMAN to be held on Wednesday, July 9th starting a 7:00 pm Already
over 30 of the 85 seats have been sold, leaving less than 55 unsold.
All tickets sold this year include a 2008-2009 membership - SILVER
MEMBER/TICKET combo is $30 and GOLD MEMBER/TICKET combo is $85 - which
means that the actual cost of the ticket is $10. This has led to some
confusion - let me explain: last year we sold combo SILVER tickets
for $40 and regular tickets for $35. This year combo SILVER tickets
are just $30 - $10 less than last year, and $5 less than last years
non-membership ticket - so we are not selling any regular non-membership
tickets this year. GOLD combo tickets cost $85 (last year they cost
$95). This reduced ticket price is made possible because of the generous
arrangements offered by Phil Bond and Kenny Bell at THE BEECHMAN.
Please remember, there is a $15 food/drink minimum at THE BEECHMAN.
For more information, see this link: http://www.svhamstra.com/NewsCABHT080709Bday18a.shtml
I am hoping to find at least one additional sponsor for the 18th Birthday
show to help cover the costs of the event (every penny of tickets
sold will go to support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - as in the past).
Sponsorships are available for just $100. Just go to the following
link: http://www.svhamstra.com/thankyou1sponsor.shtml
- fill out the form and I will send you a PayPal invoice. Sponsors
get a 1/4 page ad in the program book (worth $35), and will have their
name and website mentioned (unless they wish to remain anonymous)
in all promotional materials for the event. Like this:
THE CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY is
sponsored in part by 2008-MAC AWARD winner Suzanne Carricco (http://www.suzannecarrico.com/
), Raissa Katona Bennett (http://www.raissa.info/
), MIRANDA MUSIC (http://www.mirandamusic.com/
), Sandi Durell (http://www.timelessdivas.com/
) and Joyce Moody (http://www.joycemoody.com/
). Two additional sponsors have chosen to remain anonymous.
If you can't attend our 18th BIRTHDAY SHOW on July 9th, (or if you
have a show or CD to promote, or want to send congratulations on the
birthday or to our award winners) you can support the event by purchasing
an ad in the program booklet (costs start at just $20). Just go to
http://www.svhamstra.com/thankyou1prog.shtml
and fill in the size ad you wish to purchase and I will send you a
PayPal invoice (we prefer PayPal - the safest way to transmit money
via the internet). Deadline for ads is June 24th.
If you have visited the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website lately (over
6000 folks do every day) you may note that we are in the midst of
a major renovation - and about 50% towards completion. The opening
(home) page will change every morning to list the latest and best
shows around the world happening that day. Having a show or cabaret
event today? Is your show listed? There is no charge for your show
to be listed on the website or in the newsletter - you don't even
have to be a member! Remember, unseen and untold means unsold. Check
out the website in the weeks to come as we make improvements.
It is noon - and I honestly have run out of news and items for this
section. I do hope to get out and about over the next few days to
cabaret shows and events to report on in the Monday issue. Meantime,
please send your comments and suggestions about the website revision
- keep in mind that it is still very much a "work in progress."
And that is just about the way it was.
Until Monday, then.
