HERE & THERE
Well, we had 15 minutes of snow yesterday - the first snow to fall in NYC since probably February of last year. It was there - and then it was gone. And the forecast for the next few days calls for temperatures to go back up into the 50s! (f) - it is hovering at 32 degrees (f) as I prepare to send out this newsletter at noon.

It is a slow news week, and once again I am awaiting a news item promised for today. Please dear readers, subscribers and performers: I try to send out the newsletters at around noon on Mondays and Thursdays each week and if you want your news item to appear, please give me at least 24 hours to check it out for any missing information I might need. I get so many items that lack such important information as the reservation phone number - and sometimes even the address of the club! If you are reading this paragraph, it means the item I was waiting for did not arrive in time.

One item that did arrive in time to make it into this issue us the press release regarding the 2007 NY NIGHTLIFE AWARDS (see below for summary and link). The show at THE TOWN HALL (123 West 43rd Street, NYC - 212-997-1929 - http://www.the-townhall-nyc.org/ ) on Monday, January 29th at 7:00 pm should be another fantastic Scott Siegel production. This awards show is the only one in the world that foregoes the acceptance speeches in favor of actual performance by the winners (as well as performances by guest stars from the worlds of cabaret, comedy and jazz). You have only 2 1/2 weeks to get your tickets and you best hurry before all the best seats are sold out.

2600 bogus postings! That is the number of items posted on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE message board in the past three months that I have had to delete manually. I have had to lock the board and approve every post. There seems to be no easy solution in sight unless I change to a new system requiring folks to register and use a password when they make a posting - something I am for some reason loath to do. The postings - about everything from links to porn websites to links to stock market tips - are put up all hours of the day and night, and they seem to be posted by individuals outside the USA - the spelling and grammar is often laughable. So, if your posting on the message board does not appear for a few hours, realize that I am probably away from the computer and it will be approved as soon as I return. This is usually between the hours of 5:00 pm and 1:00 am (except in a few minutes I am off to get a haircut and do some grocery shopping).

ANNOUNCING A JANUARY/FEBRUARY BANNER SALE FOR NON-TRI-STATE SHOWS
Are you a performer from outside the Tri-State Area (NY, NJ, CT) but presenting a show in the Tri-State Area? Are you a performer from the Tri-State Area (NY, NJ, CT) presenting a show outside the Tri-State Area? You can run your banner promoting your show for for 2 or more weeks with a 50% discount! NOW FOR MORE NEWS ABOUT CABARET
In an effort to cut down on "repeated" events, except for announcements of programs offered by cabaret membership organizations, and shows where guests change weekly, cabaret news items will usually appear just once in the newsletter. The CABARET NEWS pages on the website are updated regularly, and cover all areas of the world.

SPECIAL LATE BREAKING NEWS
I am sure you will find information in this issue you haven't read anywhere else - at least until today! lease note that in most instances more detailed information and photo are on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. Just click on the links provided.

SUPER SIDEBAR ADS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE
The current REGULAR SIDE-BAR ads are seen only on the opening (home) page. Several folks have asked if there was a way that their side-bar ad could be seen on every page of the website, all the time. With over 5000 pages on the site it would be impossible, but I have been revising and recoding all the "index" and all the "most visited pages" as well as all new pages of news, reviews and other items to make it possible for a side-bar ad (in the right column on the pages "above the fold" except for the opening page) to be seen on hundreds of pages - all the time. These SUPER SIDE-BAR ads - twice the size (vertical) of regular side-bar ads are available for $125 per week (membership discounts allowed). There is a 2-week minimum. After 2 weeks continuous, the cost drops to $100 per week. If the banner runs for 9 weeks, the 10th week is free. Only two SUPER SIDEBAR ADS will be available per week. Banner size is 180 x 360 pxls at 72 dpi. Gif, and Jpg banners accepted (no "flash" banners at this time). Banners will appear in the right sidebar at the top two positions - first ordered and paid goes in the top "Tiffany" position. In addition, SUPER SIDEBAR advertisers will have their offering mentioned in both the MONDAY and MIDWEEK issues of CABARET HOTLINE and the both ads will be featured in rotation on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE weblog pages as well. Click on the button marked BANNER INFO at the top of every page on the website for details on all sizes, styles and specs.

REMINDER REGARDING CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE DISCOUNTS
To be eligible for a listing on the MEMBER DEALS page you must send in your flier, press release and/or other promotional materials clearly showing the discount offer. That information will be used as the basis for the MEMBER DEALS page notice, as well as for the newsletter listing. Please be sure to check with the venue where you are performing to be sure that these discounts will be honored.

Any member who is denied a properly listed CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE discount should notify me at once. I cannot guarantee that the discount will be honored, but I can take steps to contact the parties involved and publish the facts in the newsletter and remove the listing from the MEMBER DEALS page.

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
Information about other shows around the country and around the world can be found on the CABARET NEWS page of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website? Just e-mail me a press release of at least four paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available. Please send me complete information - and do not merely e-mail me a copy of your flier or a reference to a website.

By the way, I usually trim quotes from reviews from the press releases I receive before using the item on my website or in the newsletter, so don't count them when putting together the four or more paragraphs. And, please, please don't send in your press release with all those annoying html links (with embedded photos, distracting backgrounds, etc.), or simply a .jpg of your post card or as one of those "e-vite" things that require me to "click to open" and lead to a web page somewhere. Just send in your press release or listings request in simple .txt format (the format I write these issues in and use for the website).

IT'S TIME TO GO
At the top of this newsletter I promised that you would read things in this issue you will not find published anywhere else. Did I keep my promise?

Your membership donations support this publication and the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. If you enjoy the fruits of our efforts and would like to support us, why not join as a supporting member? Your donation is most important to me, not just to pay for my food, cable, phone, DSL and rent, etc., but also as a confirmation of your appreciation. Can you please help?

For information on becoming a member of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, just click on the JOIN HERE button on the website. You can even make your membership donation by credit card, using PayPal. If you prefer not to use a credit card and PayPal, you can send a check made out simply to Stu Hamstra and mail it to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, 676A Ninth Avenue #120, NY, NY 10036.

I realize that there is probably far more information here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website means another place where they can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.) alike. Your membership donations make this all possible.

And that is just about the way it was.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
