Leny Andrade, the "Queen of the Bossa Nova" travels from her native Rio De Janiero to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080), Tuesday through Saturday, August 31st through September 4th, with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. She will celebrate the release of her newest CD Alma Mia, a collection of unforgettable boleros, tangos and Latin jazz standards - a look back to the five years she spent in Mexico. Ms. Andrade will be joined by Klaus Meuller (piano), Sergio Brandao (bass) and Helio Schiavo (drums). The event is produced by Pat Philips & Ettore Stratta. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

Sharon McNight brings her critically acclaimed show, SONGS TO OFFEND ALMOST EVERY-ONE, to TIM McLOONE'S SUPPER CLUB (1200 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ - 732-774-1400 - ) for one night only on Thursday, September 2nd at 8:00 pm. In the show, McNight tackles the topics of society, sex, religion, sex, hypocrisy, sex and lust in song and commentary. The entire show is an updated "party" record from the 1950's made famous by artists like Belle Barth and Rusty Warren, only OFFENSIVE little more risque. This show is definitely not for children, but it's great fun for everyone else. The songs are by song writers from pop-to-Broadway-to-country, including: Randy Newman, Stephen Sondheim, Chet Atkins, Noel Coward, Kander & Ebb, Tom Lehrer and many new songwriters with songs written especially for this show. Sharon McNight first rose to prominence in San Francisco's cabaret scene during the 1980's, winning five (5) Cable Car Awards for Best Cabaret Artist in rapid succession. She has appeared everywhere from Moose Halls to Carnegie Hall (twice) and theaters, concert halls, colleges and cabarets from Los Angeles to Berlin. Tickets are $20.

Richard Skipper, the 4-time MAC Award winning celebrity tribute artist, brings his critically acclaimed show "CAROL CHANNING" IN CONCERT to Cape Cod for a 4-Night Only Special Engagement prior to this Fall's Off-Broadway run. The performances will occur Monday August 30th through Thursday September 2nd at The Madeira Room Vixen located at THE PILGRIM HOUSE (336 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA - 508-487-6424) . "CAROL CHANNING" IN CONCERT is a fully staged and researched musical montage celebrating the career and persona of the unique theatrical legend. Blending Channing's standards with original material and other familiar songs sung by Skipper in a spot-on Channing-on-Broadway perfection, the musical evening surveys Channing's life with many stops along the way. Making his return to Provincetown for the first time in 8 years, Skipper is fresh off a joint appearance with Carol Channing preceding a 1-night standing room only engagement of "CAROL CHANNING" IN CONCERT in New York. The buzz created by the New York concert has prompted demand for a longer-term Off-Broadway production, which is slated to open in New York City this Fall in conjunction with bookings worldwide. The Provincetown and upcoming Off-Broadway productions of "CAROL CHANNING" IN CONCERT are produced by The Camelback Kid. Jazz vocalist Marlena Shaw will perform her show "A Natural Element" at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Thursday through Saturday, September 2nd through 4th at 7:30 pm. Marlena Shaw is among the most versatile and charismatic jazz vocalists on the scene today. Her performances are marked by an artful blend of pop standards and straight-ahead jazz tunes. Her extroverted stage presence gives her an edge over other vocalists, and clearly, singing live before an audience is where she feels most comfortable. Marlena Shaw has recorded music for labels like Blue Note, Cadet, Verve, Columbia & Concord Jazz. With classic tracks such as "California Soul" & "Woman Of The Ghetto," she dazzles audiences with her intimate performance style. Tickets are $35.

Premier Barbra Streisand impressionist Steven Brinberg teams up with David Burnham, star of Broadway's The Light in the Piazza and Wicked for 5 performances in September at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189 - / ). Shows are Wednesday, September 1st at 8:00 pm, Thursday through Saturday, September 2nd through 4th at 9:45 pm and Sunday, September 5th at 7:00 pm. Steven Brinberg has been performing his incredible show, Simply Barbra, to international acclaim both on stage and television (and performing twice with none other than Marvin Hamlisch!) as he pays homage to all that is Streisand. Steven does not lip-sync his performances but accurately portrays Streisand with his own voice. With over a decade of performing experience, his amazing show, which is updated annually, has Steven in demand literally worldwide. For this special San Francisco engagement, Steven is thrilled to be joined by guest star David Burnham, star of Broadway's The Light in the Piazza and Wicked. Stripped back, irreverent and shameless, Mic Conway takes the stage with Robbie Long at THE BUTTERFLY CLUB (204 Bank Street, South Melbourne, VIC - 03 96902000 - ) Thursday through Sunday, September 2nd through 5th at 8:00 pm. They will be playing unusual and idiosyncratic tunes that will make your jaw drop, toes tap and sides split. In a circus of comedy, magic and music they delight audiences with something new, something old and something in between. Songs include some favorites from 'Captain Matchbox' and 'National Junk Band' combined with Mic's 'Circus Oz' antics, backed-up by the Australian Flat Pick Guitar Champion with that wickedly dry sense of humour, Robbie Long. The stunning Liz Frencham will be joining the boys on stage on Thursday and Friday nights, adding some deep double-bass lines into the mix and some honey-voiced vocals. METROJAM, the monthly cabaret/jazz open mic event held at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), will have its next show on Friday, September 3rd at 10:00 pm featuring host, 2010 MAC AWARD NOMINEE Jenna Esposito. Accompaniment is provided by the MetroJam house band: John DiPinto on piano, Ritt Henn on bass, and Bobby Sher on drums. Each week, Jenna welcomes a special guest, and this week's guest is TBAl. Open-mic performers have a chance to perform with a full jazz band. The winner of the 2010 MAC Award for Jazz Vocalist by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, Mary Foster Conklin will make her Royal Room Debut on Fridays & Saturdays, August 27th & 28th and September 3rd & 4th at THE ROYAL ROOM at THE COLONY HOTEL (155 Hammond Avenue, Palm Beach, FL - 561-659-8100). Mary is a true jazz original. Her voice is smoky with a tart twist of lemon. Her style has been described as both recognizably traditional yet unmistakably contemporary, as she puts her personal stamp on a repertoire that spans over eight decades. Conklin has appeared in theaters, jazz clubs and cabarets throughout the United States and Canada. Her choice of songs is an eclectic mix of contemporary material and standards, creating a hybrid sound that combines big band swing, straight ahead jazz, traditional pop and cabaret. Jazz vocalist and pianist Tish Oney brings her new show, "Jazz Seasons," to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Saturday, September 4th at 9:30 pm and Saturday, October 30th at 9:30 pm. Tish brings together a program of songs celebrating the four seasons of the year (as well as seasons of our lives) and delivers them in the straight-ahead, classic jazz tradition. Selections include original works as well as treasures by the most beloved writers of the Great American Songbook, contemporary jazz and music theatre. Oney's latest CD, "Dear Peg," earned international recognition in WHLI Radio's Top 50 Releases of 2009. A nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter, Oney earned The Diane Warren Award in 2005 and was featured with Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Patti Austin and Take 6 in the 2007 PBS broadcast tribute to Ella Fitzgerald in Los Angeles. Step back into time as fishnet clad Jesse Luttrell hosts off-Broadway's biggest little vaudeville: BAWDY! at THE TRIAD (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590 - ) on Saturday, September 4th at 9:30 pm. This ever-changing 1920's burlesque themed romp features New York's top cabaret, burlesque, and comedy talents. Special guests are Suzanne Pilzer (Eccentric Chanteause), Melissa Driscol (Sassy Saloon Singer) and Carly Sakolove (schizophrenic Youtube "Sing"-Sation). Regular performers are Grace Gotham, Gimini Rising, Tansy Tan Dora, Laura "kazoo girl" Oldham, SABRA! and the Bawdy Boys. Jesse Luttrell has appeared all over the country in touring shows, musical theatre, concerts, and cabaret engagements. Acclaimed jazz vocalist-songwriter Laura Hull will kick off a new jazz cruise series with New York City's World Yacht Cruises Jazz cruises will be featured every Saturday. A native of New York City, Ms. Hull spent her formative years singing at the resorts of upstate New York's fabled Catskill Mountains. In her early career, she worked as a session and jingle singer and showcased her singing at clubs in and around New York City. After a 24-year hiatus from music to pursue a business career, she returned to live performance in 2004 and has been described as having an infectious sense of swing, phrasing and style, applies tasteful treatments to superior material with an array of texture and color. Jim Caruso presents William Blake in concert as part of the Broadway at Birdland series on Monday, September 6th at 7:00 pm at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ). Joining him for his Labor Day show will be musical director Michael Thomas Murray (Fender Rhodes), Jeff Ganz (bass), Doug Mikula (guitar), and Jakubu Griffin (drums). The set will feature classic R&B and soul songs. William Blake, a native of Dallas, Texas, made the move to New York City in early 2007. After performing in clubs since the age of 19, he made his Carnegie Hall debut in March of this year as a guest vocalist in "Standard Time With Michael Feinstein." He has also appeared in the city at Don't Tell Mama, Uncle Charlie's and the Metropolitan Room. In 2005, he released his first studio album, "Day Dreamer." He also appeared on the fourth season of "American Idol," where he competed in Hollywood. As an actor, his regional theatre credits include The Who's Tommy (Cousin Kevin), Chicago (Mary Sunshine), The Rocky Horror Show (Riff Raff) and Pageant: The Musical (Bible Belt). Award-winning singer-songwriter Michael Garin, who's been a piano bar fixture in New York for more than two decades, teams up with singer-comedienne Mardie Millit for a month of Mondays at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ), beginning September 6th at 7:00 pm. The duo, who have been described "Steve and Eydie on acid", perform weekly at Elaine's, where they have appeared for the past two years. At the Metropolitan Room, Garin and Millit premiere their new show, "Sleepless in September," which plays four consecutive Mondays, September 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th, all at 7:00 pm. The show, so named to exploit Garin's role as a composer-lyricist for the upcoming Broadway-bound musical "Sleepless in Seattle," brings together a dizzyingly eclectic mix of American and international standards, with a sprinkling of goofy Garin-penned classics which he's honed over the years as resident piano man at The Monkey Bar, The Rainbow Room, Cafe Feenjon and the notorious VIP Room at Limelight. Keira Naughton serves as the show's stage director. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Broadway and cabaret performer Raissa Katona Bennett (Phantom of the Opera, Chess) hosts an amazing array of Broadway and cabaret artists as THE CONCERTS AT TUDOR CITY GREENS holds its final show of the 2010 season at Tudor City Greens Park (enter at Tudor City Place between East 42nd and East 43rd Streets) on Tuesday, September 7th (Rain date: Wednesday, September 8th). The concert is called “LOVE GROWS HERE” – Contemporary Theatre, Pop and Rock. Performers include Scott Coutler, Tonja Walker Davidson, Kenneth Gartman, Lina Koutrakos, Brett Kristofferson, Rosemary Loar, Roger Anthony Mapes, Angela Schultz, Steven Ray Watkins, Lennie Watts. Concerts will continue monthly through October 2010, featuring a variety of performers and themes. The concerts are being produced in association with the MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets). This year, Tom Stajmiger, a producer of theatre, concerts and cabaret around the country, joins the series, as associate producer. Sponsored, in part, by 925 Lounge and Smart Workout.

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 minimum.

"The Masters" Quartet: Steve Kuhn (piano), Dave Liebman (sax), Steve Swallow (bass), Billy Drummond (drums) will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, September 7th through 11th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. For this five-night run, four of the genre's leading instrumentalists come together in a quartet setting to play the best in modern jazz. Pianist Steve Kuhn first put his mark as a sideman with John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, and grew beyond the powerful influence of Bill Evans into a unique stylist with incredible technique and sense of dynamics and lyricism. Saxophonist Dave Liebman has played with some of the best in the business, spending extensive periods as a member of the Miles Davis and Elvin Jones groups. Double bass and bass guitar master and composer Steve Swallow joined the Paul Bley Trio in 1960, subsequently playing in groups led by Jimmy Giuffre, George Russell, Art Farmer, Stan Getz and Gary Burton. Highly in-demand sideman and drummer Billy Drummond began his career with the Horace Silver Sextet and, later, played with J. J. Johnson and Sonny Rollins. A longtime member of Carla Bley's Lost Chords Quartet as well as the Steve Kuhn Trio, Drummond rounds out this all-star jazz quartet. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

On Tuesday, September 7th, ACORN THEATER (107 Generations Drive, Three Oaks, MI - 269-756-3879 - ) we present a special version of their weekly open-mic event, Pastiche. David Lahm will be visiting from New York and will accompany vocalists on the piano. If requested, he is willing to offer gentle suggestions on how to improve their singing. David Lahm has accompanied cabaret and jazz singers, as well as helping to produce their CDs for over 25 years. He conceived a centennial tribute to Richard Rodgers in which every track was a medley of a Rodgers song and an appropriately matched song by someone else. ("My Funny Valentine" paired with Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," for example.) That CD, MEDLEYFYIN' with vocals by Judy Kreston, was listed as a finalist for GRAMMY nominations in 2005. He has also drawn praise for the recorded output of what he calls "a small career in the jazz world" as pianist, composer and arranger. Notable among his projects are two CDs of instrumental interpretations from the canon of the songwriter he considers the "greatest in the English language in the last 50 yeears." These CDs are called JAZZ TAKES ON JONI MITCHELL and feature, as soloists, talents no less eminent than Randy Brecker and Lew Tabackin. Chicago cabaret favorite Laura Freeman hosts a celebration of Doris Day's music at MAXIM'S at The Nancy Goldberg International Center (24 East Goethe Street, Chicago, IL - Tickets: 312-742-1748 - ) on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:30 pm (cocktails at 7:00 pm). Having recorded over 600 songs, Day is known for such hits as Sentimental Journey, Secret Love and Everybody Loves a Lover. Doris was not just a pretty voice and a pratfall. She represents the spirit of all, at various times in history. She was the voice of the returning service men from World War II. She was the voice of the early women's lib movement, representing single career woman everywhere. She was also the voice of a grieving gay community, at the height of the AIDS crisis. Her rendition of My Buddy, sung for her friend Rock Hudson, was used to say goodbye to sons, brothers and lovers in the early 80's. Call for cover/minimum information.

Wednesday, September 8th, Katerina's Composers Studio, hosted by Jeannie Tanner, continues at KATERINA'S CLUB (1920 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL - 773-348-7592 - ) from 9:00 to midnight. This new monthly showcase features women singer/songwriters and composers from the Chicago area. This month the showcase will feature the music of composers Sandra Antongiorgi, Jane Thatcher and host, Jeannie Tanner. There will be performances by the three, along with conversations and a time for audience questions. There us a $5 cover.

Meri Kenaz presents Soul Folk at VILLA PASCAL (28 Van Der Westhuizen Street. Durbanville, Capetown, SA - Tel: 021-9752566 - ) on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 pm. Meri Kenaz is a female singer/songwriter difficult to box in one genre. She calls her authentic brand of Alternative acoustic music "Soul-Folk" and explains that its due to the spiritual and deeply rooted lyrics that touch the soul through its poetic, but sincere honesty, while telling stories that people can relate to. Her voice is simultaneously powerful and soothingly warm. Her music has been likened to Alanis Morissette and Leslie Rae Dowling among many other great artists. Jazz vocalist and pianist Tish Oney brings her new show, "Jazz Seasons," to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Saturday, October 30th at 9:30 pm. Tish brings together a program of songs celebrating the four seasons of the year (as well as seasons of our lives) and delivers them in the straight-ahead, classic jazz tradition. Selections include original works as well as treasures by the most beloved writers of the Great American Songbook, contemporary jazz and music theatre. Oney's latest CD, "Dear Peg," earned international recognition in WHLI Radio's Top 50 Releases of 2009. A nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter, Oney earned The Diane Warren Award in 2005 and was featured with Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Patti Austin and Take 6 in the 2007 PBS broadcast tribute to Ella Fitzgerald in Los Angeles.
