NYC: SANDY BAINUM: SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT

Songstress Sandy Bainum returns to the New York cabaret stage to debut her newest show entitled Sandy Bainum: Something to Sing About at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Fridays, February 3rd & 10th at 7:00 pm, and Monday, March 12th at 7:00 pm. The performance is a celebration of positivity, featuring songs that are engaging, entertaining, and ultimately uplifting. The eclectic musical collection brilliantly weaves together the melodies of several decades and musical genres and features tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Dorothy Fields, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, David Friedman, Randy Newman and John Sebastian. Joining Sandy is her award-winning musical director, Lanny Meyers. The new show, directed by Bruce Kimmel, will treat audiences to such varied fare as "Cockeyed Optimist" from South Pacific, "Lion Tamer" from The Magic Show, "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, "Pure Imagination" from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story, to name just a few. Ms. Bainum, a regular on the Washington, D.C. theatre scene, made her Broadway debut in David Merrick's legendary production of 42nd Street. Since moving to D.C. with her husband, the former Maryland State Senator, Stewart Bainum, Sandy has performed leading roles in many of Washington's top theatrical venues including the Kennedy Center, Washington Savoyards, the Signature Theatre and Ford's Theater, where she recently completed a run in Jason Robert Brown's Parade. Sandy made her introduction to the New York cabaret scene last year in Excuse My Dust, a cabaret show inspired by the life and writings of Mrs. Dorothy Parker, followed by Great Songs Seldom Heard, after a successful debut at Washington's Signature Theatre. NYC: GRETCHEN REINHAGEN RETURNS WITH BOTH SIDES NOW

Gretchen Reinhagen presents one more performance of her acclaimed show "Both Sides Now"on Friday, February 3rd at 7:00 pm at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788). Directed by Barry Kleinbort, the show features musical director, Tracy Stark. "Both Sides Now" explores the two sides of Gretchen's musical career to date: the gems of the Musical Comedy world, such as songs from her award winning tribute to Kaye Ballard (including material not previously performed for New York audiences), as well as more contemporary and/or rock/blues tunes, such as those from her MAC nominated cover of Janis Joplin's "Pearl" album. NYC: SHAYNEE RAINBOLT QUARTET AT THE SUGAR BAR

The Shaynee Rainbolt Quartet (Tedd Kooshian, Piano; Yoshi Waki, Bass; Ray Marchica, Drums; Shaynee Rainbolt, Vocals) performs on Friday, February 3rd at Ashford & Simpson's SUGAR BAR (254 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-579-0222) with sets at 8:00 & 9:30 pm. Shaynee is a two-time MAC Award Winner and three-time MAC Award Nominee, with three critically acclaimed CD's to her credit, the first two released on the UK Indie jazz label, 33Jazz (33jazz.com). NYC: THE GARY NEGBAUR GOES SOLO AT TOMI JAZZ

Gary Negbaur will be performing a solo show of all original material at TOMI JAZZ (239 East 53rd Street, NYC - 646-497-1254) on Friday, February 3rd with sets from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. Pianist/singer/ songwriter Gary Negbaur has toured across the USA, Europe and Australia wowing audiences with his heartfelt and often humorous originals along with his innovative arrangements of standards. His recordings include a CD of original music (Let Me Explain) as well as a critically acclaimed solo album of standards (Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat) and a children's CD (Max's Family Band). In addition to performing, Gary writes music for theater and film, and many of his songs are performed and recorded by other singers. There is a $10 cover and a $10 minimum.

This all-star quintet features premiere contemporary musical artists who share a common link: They were inspired by the hard bop and post-bop repertoire and styles of Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, Oliver Nelson and others. Together, trumpeters Nicholas Payton and Jeremy Pelt, tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson, pianists George Cables and Larry Willis, bassist Dwayne Burno and drummer Billy Drummond will explore those shared influences during this one of a kind engagement. THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-570-7189) has announced the 2011 Winter season of performers at the legendary Cafe Carlyle. The Cafe will present two time Tony Award-winning actress Christine Ebersole with her Musical Director John Oddo for a four-week engagement, Tuesdays through Saturdays, January 31st through February 25th, including a special Valentine's Day show on Tuesday, February 14th. Scott Gryder returns to CLUB 3160 (3160 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL - 773-327-5969) for "SIMPLY SCOTTY" on Sunday, February 5th. Scott appears at the club on the first Sunday of every month from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. From pop hits and showtunes to cabaret and character pieces, Scott takes to the mic, entertaining from his self-compiled book of zany, heartfelt music as a "one-man parade of song." And, as music director, Nick Sula makes musical magic on the piano, with special guests Freddie The Puppet and Guillermo Chupacabra. Singers welcome! There is no cover, just a 2-drink minimum.


L.A.: KRITZERLAND: REEL IMAGINATION! SONGS FROM ANIMATED FILMS II

Kritzerland at Sterlings presents REEL IMAGINATION! The February show, marks the second of family-friendly shows. Producer Bruce Kimmel had a long and wonderful working relationship with the late Michelle Nicastro - four solo albums and she appeared on more than thirty others for him over the years. This show is a tribute to her warm and wonderful memory, this time from her album Reel Imagination, songs from classic family films like The Wizard of Oz, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, The Muppet Movie, Peter Pan, The Court Jester, Willy Wonka, and more. The Legendary Bay Area Giants Of Jazz Concert Series continues at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Friday through Sunday, February 3rd through 5th at 7:00 pm (5:00 pm on Sunday), starring Mary Stallings and featuring David Udolf on piano, Akira Tana on drums and Ron Belcher on bass. Greatly influenced by Carmen McRae, San Francisco native Mary Stallings is a passionate, robust singer who isn't nearly as well known as she should be. The niece of saxman Orlando Stallings, she started singing as a child and sang jazz in Bay Area clubs during her teenage years, when she performed with Louis Jordan & His Tympani 5 and shared the stage with such greats as Wes Montgomery and Ben Webster. there is a $30 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

S.F.: THE RRAZZ ROOM COMEDY CLUB SERIES WITH: DONNELL RAWLINGS

The Comedy Club Series at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189 - ) presents Donnell Rawlings on Thursday, February 2nd at 8:00 pm and Friday & Saturday, February 3rd through 5th at 9:00 pm and Sunday, February 6th at 5:00 pm, plus an added late show on Saturday at 11:00 pm. Donnell Rawlings is an overnight success a decade in the making. You've seen him on Comedy Central's award winning and critically celebrated "Chappelle's Show" as "Ashy Larry," the 70's jheri curled "Beautiful," and numerous other characters he's played. NYC: VOGUE: SONGS BY MADONNA FEATURING MICHAEL GRIFFITHS

NYC: NICOLE HENRY RETURNS TO THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

International Jazz Recording Artist Nicole Henry returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Monday, February 6th at 7:00 pm. Although she's already firmly established as one of the jazz world's most acclaimed and respected young vocalists, Nicole Henry's vibrant new album "Embraceable" makes it clear that she can't be categorized so simply. Henry's powerfully expressive, emotionally resonant voice has already earned her three international top 10 albums, the most recent being her 2008 release The Very Thought of You. She's also won an international reputation as a beguiling live performer, enchanting audiences on multiple continents. Henry has remained a favorite in New York City where she's made high-profile appearances at such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola and Feinstein's at the Regency. NYC: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLAND

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. DC: DARRYL E. JONES AT BLUES ALLEY

Jazz flautist Darryl E. Jones performs at BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Monday, February 6th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. In the tradition of pioneering contemporary jazz greats like Tim Weisberg and Hubert Laws, Darryl Evan Jones, long known by his fans and peers as "The Fluteman," brings the unique instrument's classic vibe and rich melodic and harmonic possibilities to a new generation. On his highly anticipated debut recording Dream, the multi-talented Bronx, New York raised performer who moved to Memphis several years ago fully embraces the indie artist spirit with 12 originals and two uniquely arranged covers ("Yesterday," "I Believe Him") that reflect the many different sides of Jones' unique musical personality. CHI: KT McCAMMOND IN SOPHISTICATED LADIES AT THE SHOWCASE

KT McCammond performs her debut CD "Finding My Way Home" with pianist Jeremy Kahn and bassist, Jim Cox at THE JAZZ SHOWCASE (806 South Plymouth Court, Chicago, IL - 312-360-0234) on Monday, February 6th, with sets from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. Sets include KT's signature style of cross genre music ranging from "Lush Life" and "Blues in the Night" all the way to "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Born This Way." First in a monthly series "Sophisticated Ladies," KT will be joined for her 10:00 pm set by Elizabeth Doyle and Claudia Hommel. There is a $15-$25 cover.

L.A.: GEOFFREY LEIGH TOZER IN ADDICTED TO SWANK
