Bob Levy started his songwriting career at the age of twenty-two in New York City co-writing with multi-talented singer/songwriter Ronny Whyte. Since then Bob has collaborated with songwriters Boris Midney, Jerry Lundy and David Coons. Recently he had the pleasure to work with Australian born singer/songwriter Karen Jacobsen. Their song "THIS TIME" was 2008 MAC Award nominee. Bob now collaborates from time to time with Harriet Goldberg and, Dennis Livingston both from Boston. Bob and Dennis' comedy tune "WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD FROM YOU?" (affectionately known as 'The Stalker Tango') has been performed several times in NYC and Boston by Phil Kassel, Patricia Fitzpatrick and Lisa Kantor, who will also be debuting their newest co-write, "DANGEROUS WOMEN". Bob's newest ballad, "IF YOUR HEART COULD FLY" will be debuted in NYC at Don't Tell Mama by vocalist Lynda D'Amour.
Bob is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in New York, as well as the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC), The Boston Association of Cabaret Artists (BACA) as well as the Connecticut Songwriters Association. Bob Levy's publishing company is Silk River Music, ASCAP.
Besides being a 2008 MAC nominee for Outstanding Song Of The Year, Bob's jazz ballad, "WHY PRETEND", (recorded by Perry Danos) was featured on TNT's 'SAVING GRACE' on July 28, 2009. Episode #306 was titled "THAT WAS NO FIRST KISS". His jazz/blues song, "THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM ME", also recorded by Perry Danos was nominated for a 2009 JPF Award in the Jazz Vocal category. Songs were submitted from 160 countries around the world and less than 1/3 of 1% was nominated out of a total of over half a million songs that were submitted worldwide. JPF is an International Music Organization for independent songwriters.
Bob's jazz and country songs have also received numerous honors in the Billboard Song Competition and the VH1 Song Of The Year competition. Bob is an ASCAP Plus Award Winner for 2005 through 2009. ASCAP selected his song, "Paris Without You" for their EMERGING JAZZ WRITERS radiobroadcast series.
Dane Vannatter, Laurie Krauz, Sue Matsuki and Karen Jacobsen have performed five of his songs as part of the New Songwriter series at the NY Sheet Music Society in NYC. Sue Matsuki also performed "SOONER THAN SOMEDAY"; one of his collaborations with Dennis Livingston at the TRU Faces Cabaret sponsored by Theater Resources Unlimited in New York. Six of Bob's songs were recently featured in May 2009 as part of the Boston Association Of Cabaret Artists (BACA) Special Cabaret Showcase at Deane Hall in the Calderwood Pavilion, in Boston, MA. with vocalists Dane Vannatter, Jan Peters, Lynda D'Amour, and Phil Kassel with Tom La Mark on piano.
"A Musical Celebration", a highly successful showcase of his songs was held in 2007 at The Laurie Beechman Theater with seven great jazz and cabaret vocalists: Barbara Brussell, Laurie Krauz, Marcus Goldhaber, Sue Matsuki, Dane Vannatter, Vincent Wolfe and Ronny Whyte. The musical director was Tedd Firth.
Bob's first CD collection, "Out In the Cold - New Jazz Standards" was released in 2006 and his second CD, "Me & My Best Friends" in 2008. Two of Bob's jazz songs, "ASK ME IF I CARE" and "ALL I REALLY NEED IS YOU" were recorded live at The Metropolitan Room in NYC by Russ Lorenson for his upcoming CD "STANDARD TIME".
Bob's Jazz and country songs are now being performed throughout the US, Canada, the UK, Italy, Greece and Japan by talented vocalists like Dane Vannatter, Barbara Brussell, Vincent Wolfe, Sue Matsuki, Linda Kosut, Russ Lorenson, Jan Peters, Lynda D'Amour, Patricia Fitzpatrick, Joe Peck, Francesca Amari, Frank Torren and others.
